Tasting Notes |
Aromatically the wine is an intriguing blend of passionfruit, lemongrass and floral notes with freshly cut herbs and red capsicum(bellpaper) adding complexity.Crisp acidity gives the palate its typical Marlborough zing whilst highlighting the wines mineral qualities and adding to its great length.Flavour wise, passionfruit, pink grapefruit and lime dominate. With bottle age, the barrel ferment component will become more evident providing rich tropical characters to the palate. |

Winemakers Notes |
The grapes were gently pressed with only the freerun juice being used for this wine.In total eleven separate picks were made and were kept separate until fermentation was completed. The majority of the wine was fermented in stainless steel tanks at low temperatures using various aromatics yeasts.Six percent of the blend was fermented in seasoned French oak barriques, the wine from these barrels adds complexity in terms of flavour and texture. |
Viticulture Notes |
The grapes for this wine were sourced from six separate vineyards. These vineyards are located in the Waihopai(two) and the Omaka Valleys and the Rapaura,Spring Creek areas and close to the Lawson's Dry Hills Winery on Alabama Road. Each vineyard has it own unique aspect and soil that give the grapes thier own unique aromatic and flavour profiles. The early part of 2007/2008 growing season was very settled allowing good flowering and excellent development of flavours. The vineyards were carefully monitored and all the grapes were harvested when flavours reached their optimum. |
Cellaring |
This wine will develop well in the bottle over the next three to four years.Over that time the dominant fresh fruit characters will mellow and the wine will take on add complexity and rich secondary characters. |
