Wine Notes

Lawson's Dry Hills The Pioneer Pinot Gris 2009

Region
Marlborough
Tasting Notes
This wine displays varietal characters that epitomise the best of New Zealand Pinot Gris. Aromas of fresh, canned and candied pears dominate the nose, supported by aromas of stone fruit and freshly baked bread. The palate displays strong pear characters with lovely concentration, great persistence and a medium dry finish(12.6g/L). This wine will develop even more richness and complexity with two to three years bottle age.
Food Match
Enjoy with seafood and good friends.
Winemaker
Marcus Wright / Rebecca Wiffen.
Winemakers Notes
The juice from the two picks were fermented separately in stainless steel tanks at cool temperatures to maximise the wines aromatic potential.
Viticulture Notes
The grapes for this wine were sourced from the Barnsley vineyard in the Waihopi Valley. Harvested in two separate parcels, the first was picked at 23.5 brix and in wonderful condition, with bright pear and citrus flavours. The second parcel harvested was a late pick bunch selection that targeted berries with a small amount of botrytis(20% of the blend). The Barnsley vineyard has always produced amazing Pinot Gris for us, the secret seems to be the combination of soil and the attention to detail in the vineyard.
Cellaring
This wine will reward cellaring over the next two to three years.
