Mount Vernon

Mount Vernon

Rising 422 metres, Mt Vernon is one of the peaks towering above Marlborough in the Wither Hills, just behind the winery here at Lawson’s Dry Hills. Named after this local landmark, the wines under this label are accessible, approachable and rewarding with a focus on fruit purity.

Mount Vernon Sauvignon Blanc

This is a wonderfully aromatic Sauvignon Blanc with flavours ranging from ripe and tropical through to herbaceous and grassy. The palate is bright and fruity with a lovely, juicy concentration and gentle finish.

From selected vineyards throughout the Marlborough region, the 2021 vintage was about 25% down in yield due to poor flowering. However, the weather came right and all our blocks were picked in ideal conditions with perfect ripeness.

Mount Vernon Pinot Gris

This wine is made from grapes from several different vineyards in the Wairau Valley. We work to ensure crops are kept at a moderate level and we leaf-pluck the vines to ensure the fruit has good exposure to the sun. The fruit was picked early in the season to retain fresh fruit characters and bright acidity.

Ripe apple and stonefruit provide instant appeal on the nose while the palate has delicious pear and peach flavours and lovely concentration. This is easy drinking at its best – fresh and juicy, yet dry.
