THE PIONEER LAUNCH.

In early February 2010, "The Pioneer " range of wines were successfully launched in Auckland at Clooney Restaurant.
The event was attended by nine of New Zealand's top wine and food commentators, together with twenty two selected guests.
The wines were matched with Clooney's wonderful food, a particular favourite being the Eastherbrook Farms Quail with Foie Gras mousse, pickled nashi, maple syrup and mustard matched with The Pioneer Gewürztraminer 2009.
The three wines in the The Pioneer range from the 2009 vintage are:- Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and of course the Gewürztraminer.
Only grapes of expectional quality will be used to produce The Pioneer super premium range, the wines will not always be produced and the varieties may change to suit the available grapes from each vintage.
The wines are limited, with just over one hundred cases of each produced for this first release, The Pioneer range of wines are available at wine specailist retailers and restaurants around New Zealand and from the Cellar Door.

I tried the most delicious Gewürztraminer I've had this year when Barbara Lawson unveiled The Pioneer range of wines; made in honour of her late husband Ross Lawson - Marlborough winery owner, grape grower and founding member of the New Zealand Screwcap Wineseal Initiative.
The first of the trio to touch my lips was the 2009 Sauvignon Blanc. Winemaker Marcus Wright and Rebecca Wiffen made this explosively tropical, fleshy and full bodied Sauvignon Blanc. The Pioneer range also includes a Gewürztraminer 2009 and a Pinot Gris 2009, which is better than most; flavoursome and full bodied. I can't think of a better way to spend a busy afternoon than tasting the adventurous winemaking that went into these wines - which are made from standard everyday grapes, but taste outstanding".
