The Press - Zest - SOPHISTICATED RED

Berries, cherries and currants give this smooth sophisticated Marlborough red a full, rich flavour. It is certainly no lightweight lunchtime wine and will pair well with refined, well prepared meat dishes. There is a hint of vanilla, the oak is restrained and there is no discernible tannin. Whilst fine to drink now, a year or two more in the cellar won't harm.

The nose is intensely penetrating and tightly packed with primary aromas of ripe dark berry fruits - black cherries, spicy oak and fragrance of violets, nuances of liquorice and plums. Medium-bodied and elegantly proportioned, the flavours of dark berry fruits and black cherries are concentrated. This wine has the firmness of youth with emerging oak carrying through to a long and sustained finish with spicy black cherry flavours. A youthful Pinot Noir with intense black fruits and raciness.

BEST VALUE - There's lots of attractive cherry fruit here, a savoury hint of dark chocolate and toasty oak. A lively edge and a crisp finish.

Bright ruby red with a sweet violet, plum, cherry and coconut nose complemented by savoury and green herb notes. Firm, fine tannins and smooth plum and mocha flavours wash across the palate. The acids are well integrated, whilst bacon and spice notes deliver real personality. Full bodied with some appealing fruit cake flavours. Another fine example from Lawson's Dry Hills.
